This major project involved the complete construction of a new potable water treatment plant and new storage tanks to ensure a safe and sustainable water supply for the community of Kawawachikamach.
The process mechanical work included:
- Installation of nanofiltration, UV disinfection, chlorination, remineralization, and neutralization systems;
- Implementation of automated chemical dosing systems for water treatment;
- Installation of raw water, distribution, and backwash pumping stations, including variable-speed drives and associated piping;
- Fabrication and installation of mechanical pipe supports, including seismic supports;
- Full pipe insulation to ensure freeze protection and energy efficiency;Performance testing, pipe cleaning and disinfection, and assistance with commissioning.
This project provides the community with modern, high-performance infrastructure that meets the latest water treatment standards while delivering a safe and sustainable service in a unique logistical context.
Project highlights:
- Construction in an isolated northern environment, where logistics posed a major challenge: equipment transported exclusively by train and personnel travel only by plane;
- Requirement for meticulous planning;
- Integration of modern, automated processes in a large-scale project;
- Multidisciplinary coordination with structural, architectural, electrical, and instrumentation/control teams.
